FYE Family News: August 11, 2026
Next stop: Autumn semester
We'll be reaching out all year
Summer is almost over — but FYE News for Families isn't! Just as we've done this summer, we'll use this newsletter to keep in touch and share important information throughout your student's first year at The Ohio State University.
Two pieces of Buckeye business
Pay tuition and fees
To avoid a late fee, your student's tuition, fees, housing and other charges for autumn 2026 semester must be paid by Tuesday, August 18. Your student can see these charges on their Statement of Account (accessible from their My Buckeye Link page) and share a copy with you.
Parents, guardians and others may pay tuition and fees for a student through an Authorized Payer account. Your student can set up your Authorized Payer account through the Parents & Families section of their My Buckeye Link page.
Additionally, the Tuition Option Payment Plan allows students to split their owed balance into monthly installments. Your student can enroll in TOPP from their Buckeye Link page.
Student information release
Without a student information release, we cannot discuss your student's accounts or academic records with anyone but your student (including parents, guardians, a spouse or other parties). Your student can access and complete a student information release by logging in to their My Buckeye Link.
Staying in touch with FYE Peer Leaders
At summer orientation, your student connected with an FYE Peer Leader, an experienced upper-level student dedicated to supporting new Buckeyes through their transition to campus. Throughout the semester, their peer leader will reach out at least once a month with important updates and campus resources.
Whenever your student has questions or needs a little guidance during their first semester, they can always reach out to peerleaders@osu.edu!
Keep visiting the (more than) orientation website
We've mentioned it before, but it's worth repeating. The orientation website is home to resources you'll find useful throughout your student's first year, including:
a calendar of live, virtual events hosted by offices and departments that will support your student’s transition to college
a guide to doing business Buckeye style that breaks down the tasks your student will need to complete just once, once each year or every term (plus, video tutorials!).
Supporting academic and social navigation
As your student starts at Ohio State, remember that success goes beyond the classroom. Encourage them to take charge of their learning by being proactive — whether it's visiting professor office hours, speaking up in class, or digging deeper into assignments. Remind them about the many campus resources available, like the Writing Center, Tutoring Services, University Libraries, and Academic Advising. Knowing how to use these tools is crucial for becoming an independent and confident Buckeye!
Register for the Buckeye Family Tailgate
Registration is now open for the Buckeye Family Tailgate, an event hosted by Parent and Family Relations on Saturday, October 10. Parents and families are invited to enjoy a unique game day experience with their student on the South Oval prior to the home game against Maryland. Registration closes at 3 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, September 2.
Note: Football tickets are not included.
