About FYE

Setting the stage for first year success.

About First Year Experience

First Year Experience (FYE) supports new students as they transition to The Ohio State University. Through peer guidance, holistic support networks and targeted skill-building programs, FYE helps incoming Buckeyes lay the foundation for long-term academic, personal and professional success.

Our goal is simple: to ensure every first-year student feels welcomed, prepared and empowered from day one. In partnership with faculty, staff and campus resources, FYE builds a collaborative community dedicated to student achievement and success.

Our Approach to Student Success

  • Peer-Led Guidance: The best advice often comes from someone who has been there before. FYE Peer Leaders are experienced Ohio State students who share their insights, answer questions and help new Buckeyes navigate everything from academics and involvement to campus life.

  • Connected Support: New students don't have to figure out college on their own. FYE works with academic, wellness and student support offices across Ohio State to connect Buckeyes with the people and resources that can help them succeed.

  • Building Skills for Success: The first year is about more than earning good grades. Through programs like the First Year Success Series, students can build practical skills, explore new opportunities and develop the confidence to make the most of their Ohio State experience.

Here for Every Step of Your First Year

Across every first year milestone – from Orientation and Convocation to daily campus life – the FYE team ensures new Buckeyes have the support, resources and connections they need to thrive.
