Wilderness Welcome: Sea Kayaking at Pictured Rocks National Seashore
Clear water, pristine beaches, waterfalls and sandstone cliffs await at Pictured Rocks National Seashore. This trip is all about developing connections: connecting with other first-year students, with nature and with your new home, Ohio State. Student leaders will provide guidance on how to set up tents and cook in the backcountry. The trip is appropriate for both novice and more experienced sea-kayakers looking for a backcountry experience. At the end of the trip, staff will help students move in early and join the OWL program. This trip is also available for 1 academic credit. Email adventure@osu.edu with questions or to enroll for academic credit.

Wilderness Welcome: Colorado Rock Adventure
Snow-topped mountains framed by deep blue skies greet you as you enter Rocky Mountain National Park. On this adventure, you'll fly to gorgeous Colorado and spend the week in the Rocky’s. A mixture of front-country and backcountry camping will help develop the leadership skills of first-year students. The trip is challenging, yet appropriate for both novice and more experienced climbers. At the end of the trip, staff will help students move in early and join the OWL program. This trip is available for academic credit.

Wilderness Welcome: Backpacking the Appalachian Trail
On this trip, students will backpack a section of the Appalachian Trail. Participants will have a chance to focus on developing backcountry and leadership skills while connecting with nature, other first-year students and Ohio State. Student leaders will provide guidance on how to set up tents and cook in the backcountry. This trip is appropriate for novice and experienced backpackers looking for a true backcountry experience. At the end of the trip, staff will help students move in early and join the OWL program. This trip is also available for 1 academic credit.

Wilderness Welcome: Canoeing in the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area
On this trip, students will canoe the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area. Participants will have a chance to paddle through the beautiful landscape of northern Minnesota during peak season. This trip will focus on developing backcountry and leadership skills while connecting with nature, other first-year students and Ohio State. Student leaders will provide guidance on how to set up tents and cook in the backcountry. This trip is appropriate for novice and experienced canoeists looking for a true backcountry experience. At the end of the trip, staff will help students move in early and join the OWL program. This trip is also available for 1 academic credit.

Wilderness Welcome: Hocking Hills Zip, Canoe and Ride
Connect with other first-year students in the great outdoors—ziplining, horseback riding and canoeing! This front-country trip is for those who want adventure, but prefer a more established camping experience. Current Ohio State students will lead teambuilding initiatives while facilitating conversations about the transition to Ohio State. Through additional adventure opportunities in Hocking Hills, students will form incredible memories before school begins. This program is only open to incoming commuter, Honors or Scholars students. At the end of the trip, staff will help students move in early and join the OWL program.

Wilderness Welcome: Adventures on the Gorge
Experience the excitement and beauty of the outdoors at the top destination for white-water rafting in the East. During this expedition-style rafting trip along the New River Gorge in West Virginia, you'll enjoy excellent food prepared by your student leaders and guides while building new Buckeye friendships. A mixture of staying in cabins and a night of camping will accommodate all abilities. At the end of the trip, staff will help students move in early and join the OWL program. This trip is also available for 1 academic credit hour.
