Wilderness Welcome: Sea Kayaking at Pictured Rocks National Seashore
Camp on the coast, paddle alongside sand dunes and take in the beauty of Lake Michigan. This trip is all about developing connections: with other first-year students, with nature and with your new home at Ohio State. Student leaders will provide guidance throughout this experiential, field-based excursion, focusing on the basic skills necessary to live out of a sea kayak and navigate between islands in a marine environment.

The trip is challenging, yet appropriate for both novice and more experienced sea-kayakers looking for a backcountry experience. At the end of the trip, staff will help students who have elected to join the OWL program to move in early, and these students can safely store their residence hall items at the Outdoor Adventure Center for the duration of the trip. This trip is available for one academic credit.

Wilderness Welcome: Colorado Rock Adventure
Snow-topped mountains framed by deep blue skies greet you as you enter Rocky Mountain National Park. On this adventure, you'll fly to gorgeous Colorado and spend the week in the Rockies. Participants will experience front-country camping and climbing and backcountry camping and backpacking. Along the way, student leaders will help develop the leadership skills of first-year students.

The trip is challenging, yet appropriate for both novice and more experienced climbers. At the end of the trip, staff will help students who have elected to join the OWL program will move in early, and these students can safely store their residence hall items at the Outdoor Adventure Center for the duration of the trip. This trip is available for one academic credit.

Wilderness Welcome: Backpacking the Appalachian Trail
On this trip, students will backpack a section of the Appalachian Trail. Participants will have a chance to focus on developing backcountry and leadership skills while connecting with nature, other first-year students and Ohio State. Student leaders will provide guidance on how to set up tents and cook in the backcountry.

The trip is challenging, yet appropriate for both novice and more experienced backpackers looking for a backcountry experience. At the end of the trip, staff will help students who have elected to join the OWL program to move in early, and these students can safely store their residence hall items at the Outdoor Adventure Center for the duration of the trip. This trip is available for one academic credit.

Wilderness Welcome: Biking and Boating
On this trip, students will bike a section of the Great Allegheny Passage and whitewater raft the Lower Youghiogheny River in beautiful Ohiopyle, PA. This trip will focus on developing leadership skills while connecting with nature, other first-year students and Ohio State. Student leaders will provide guidance on how to set up tents and cook in the backcountry.

The trip is challenging, yet appropriate for both novice and more experienced bicyclists and rafters. At the end of the trip, staff will help students who have elected to join the OWL program to move in early, and these students can safely store their residence hall items at the Outdoor Adventure Center for the duration of the trip. This trip is available for one academic credit.

Wilderness Welcome: Hocking Hills Zip, Canoe and Ride
Connect with other first-year students in the great outdoors—ziplining, horseback riding and canoeing! This front-country trip is for those who want adventure, but prefer a more established camping experience. Current Ohio State students will lead teambuilding initiatives while facilitating conversations about the transition to Ohio State. Through additional adventure opportunities in Hocking Hills, students will form incredible memories before school begins. This program is only open to incoming Honors or Scholars students. At the end of the trip, staff will help students move in early and join the OWL program.

Wilderness Welcome: Adventures on the Gorge
Experience the excitement and beauty of the outdoors at the top destination for whitewater rafting in the East. During this expedition-style rafting trip along the New River Gorge in West Virginia, you'll enjoy excellent food prepared by your student leaders and guides while building new Buckeye friendships. A mixture of staying in cabins and a night of camping will accommodate all abilities.

At the end of the trip, staff will help students who have elected to join the OWL program to move in early, and these students can safely store their residence hall items at the Outdoor Adventure Center for the duration of the trip. This trip is available for one academic credit.
