Join the Student-Alumni Council and some fellow Buckeyes to learn about the countless student organizations on campus. Panelists will discuss how becoming involved in these clubs at Ohio State shaped their academic and career paths. 5 Under 25 will give you a glimpse of where your education at Ohio State can take you.

Buck I Just Got Here: Leaving Your Legacy from Day 1
      Students will actively engage in small group work to discuss their most pertinent life experiences and identities to help them think about how they will contribute to the campus community. Presenters (Barb Kefalas and Tiara Deguzman) will provide campus resources and involvement opportunities to the group as well as help them create action steps for how to leave OSU better than they found it.

Connecting with Global Issues through Service
      This session will introduce components of meaningful community service. We will discuss various aspects of service and how first year students can integrate service into their OSU experiences in meaningful ways around Columbus, the country and abroad. The session will discuss social issues to be aware of when performing service and provide a framework for how to connect social issues to meaningful service. An overview of resources, programs and opportunities to be involved with service at Ohio State will also be provided.

      All first-year students come to campus with a variety of past experiences that have shaped them to be the person they are today. Making new friends on a college campus can be exciting and overwhelming with so many opportunities to get involved and meet new people. During this session, we will discuss the importance of past experiences and how we as Buckeyes need to be civil when engaging with new people we meet on campus. This session will provide useful information on how to be a supportive friend, ways to make new friends at Ohio State, and how to locate campus resources that can support you and your friends in a time of need.

Provost's Discovery Themes Lecturer Program featuring author J.D. Vance
      The Discovery Themes Lecturer Program brings eminent authorities to Ohio State to address topics related to the themes of 1) Health and Wellness, 2) Energy and the Environment, 3) Food Production and Security, 4) Humanities and the Arts, and to engage students, faculty and members of the community in thoughtful examination of major issues of public concern. J.D. Vance, author of New York Times bestselling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, and Ohio State alumnus, has a passion for improving the lives of children in Ohio. His personal story taught him the importance of providing children with a stable home life, and opportunities to succeed. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Please plan to arrive by 4:15 p.m. to have the best chance at finding a seat, and enter through the College Road (West) entrance of Mershon Auditorium.       This will be an interactive workshop to discuss the Social Change Wheel and the development of one's personal identity as an activist. Participants will learn various ways to be involved in change and serve as a change agent for any social justice topic.
