FYE News for Families

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving break is often the first time you have a chance to spend time with your student since he or she started college. However, it's not always easy to return to old patterns after your student has experienced a few months in school. For those whose students are coming home for the holiday, consider the following suggestions to make it the best it can be!

  • Share new developments before Thanksgiving dinner.
  • Try to keep your student in the loop regarding family news and updates.
  • Communicate plans in advance so your student can divide time among friends and family.
  • Talk about curfews, family chores and other matters to determine what is expected of your student during the weekend at home.

Your student is used to the freedom of college life, and living at home for a few days will be different from living in a dorm.

From First Year Experience, Happy Thanksgiving!

Safe Ride

After a long night of studying, your student doesn't have to walk home alone. Safe Ride provides safe passage to and from university activities from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Students should request a safe ride as soon as they know they will need one because rides are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

How to request a safe ride:
